Shannon's New Day

I had to hear it a few times before it actually sunk in, but my first reaction when Jen mentioned doing the Breast Cancer 3-Day was "I'll do it!" I couldn't believe she would suggest such a thing - like she said, she doesn't like to sweat. That's for boys - or that's what she's always said. 2008 was a tough year for me in so many ways. I've been wanting to do something, but didn't know what. Jen had the perfect idea. Also, my friend Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2007 - at the young age of 37. This is for her and for me and for so many others.

Jen mentioned that we're doing a boot camp together - can't wait to try it. I've always wanted to do a boot camp! I may not be so eager come Tuesday morning when my buns are crying! I actually went to the gym this morning with my friend RyAnn. She introduced me to the eliptical (not sure how to spell it). I liked it - just hoping I still like it tomorrow! We also did weights to work out our arms. I didn't realize how much strength I have lost in my arms and back! I am excited to build from where I am. I'm also in the beginning stages of training for a half marathon. I want to make 2009 memorable for so many positive reasons. I'm excited about the training for the half as well as for the 3-Day. We have the most incredible double jogging stroller in the world and I will get to enjoy my boys on some of my journey. My husband will also join us on some runs, which will be nice.

Here's to A New Day!

  1. I think this is a wonderful commitment for you three and for such a special cause. As you all will be giving to others in need of a cure, you will gain as much in return. One of my cousins was 1st diagnosed at 17 years of age. She is not in her 40's and living strong after 3 huge fights. I should also mention that either the 3rd time was after a double mastectomy. I know that Rosemary, as well as others who have fought the same fight and who are still fighting, appreciate all your efforts to find a cure. Hats off to your team!
